Nana Kwesi Omenako II, Asonahene of the Akuapem Traditional Area, says any attempt to disrupt the process of installing a new Omanehene and destabilise the peace of the Akuapem people would be met by fierce resistance by the traditional authority.

In a statement, Nana Kwesi Omanako II, accused Nana Osim Kwatia, Chief Amanokrom and Nana Yaw Afari Bampoe, Baamuhene of being responsible for carrying out subversive activities to create unnecessary uncertainty in the area.

The two chiefs and their thugs on Tuesday threw caution and decorum to the wind when they disrupted the Selection process of a new Omanehene in the palace of Nana Kwasi Omenako II.

According to the traditions and customs of the Akuapem people, before one becomes a Paramount Chief of the Akuapem traditional area, the person goes through a four-stage process of Nomination, Selection, Enstoolment and the Installation.

It was during the Selection process that the two chiefs took the law into their own hands and launched assault on the Okuapemhemaa Nana Afua Nketiaa Obuo II and other members of the Sakyiabea gate of the royal family who were present.

The proposed Omanhene-elect, 63, is known in private life as Kwasi Akuffo and a Journalist by profession.

“The actions of these chiefs and their land guards were sacrilegious and uncustomary and should be treated with the contempt it deserves,” the statement stressed.

He added that the traditional authority would take measures that would establish stability in the Akuapem traditional area.

“The Asonahene and the Ohemaa wish to take this medium to assure all descendants of Okuapeman, friends and well-wishers and the entire nation that as peaceful as the people of Akuapem are and have been since the formation of Akuapem Traditional State by our Ancestors, working together with the Divisional Chiefs and all stakeholders will employ every resources at our disposal to ensure a peaceful end to this unfortunate happenings,” the statement assured.
