Motorists and passengers are stranded following closure of the dilapidated Buipe and Yapei bridges in the Northern Region.

The Ghana Highways Authority (GHA) announced plans to close down the two bridges which posed threats to motorists and pedestrians for major rehabilitation work to commence.

Vehicles plying the road have been asked to use alternative routes to enable constructors to do their work.

But the closure of the Yapei Bridge is however reportedly causing major traffic on the Kintampo North stretch of the road.

Motorists have been asked to return, using alternative routes through Bole; a situation passengers are not taking lightly.

According to the aggrieved passengers and drivers, they are not aware of the arrangements and closure of the road.

Meanwhile, reports available to ghanaweb.com indicate that workers responsible for the announced maintenance work are not currently on site, but the bridge has been closed down.

The situation is currently causing confusion as the only means of using that stretch is by foot and on motorbikes.
