New chief for Techiman installed

Techiman (B/A), May 6, GNA- Mr Kwaku Osei Mensah, 42, branch manager of Ghana Commercial Bank (GCB) at Twifo Praso in the Central Region was on Wednesday installed Omanhene of Techiman Traditional Area under the stool name Oseadeeyo Ameyaw-Akumfi 1V.

He succeeds his uncle, Osabarima Dotobibi Takyia-Ameyaw 11, who died in September last year.

The new paramount chief was nominated by the Queenmother of the Traditional Area, Nana Afia Abrafi and was accepted by the three royal gates and the kingmakers.

He is the 40th occupant of the Bronkyempem Duaduakwa stool. Thousands converged at the palace where the new chief, in traditional wardress was shown to the people and exchanged greetings with his sub-chiefs and the people.

He later swore the oath of allegiance to the people while the divisional chiefs in turns swore to him.

Those present included Professor Ameyaw-Akumfi, Minister of Ports, Harbours and Railways, MPs and DCEs.

There was a delegation from the Ghana Commercial Bank (GCB) headquarters in Accra to show solidarity to their colleague. The Vice President Alhaji Aliu Mahama will be the guest of honour at a grand durbar on Saturday. Also expected to attend are members of the diplomatic corps and Ministers of State.

The new chief was educated at Sunyani Secondary School and Adisadel College, Cape Coast, from where he proceeded to the University of Cape Coast where he obtained B.Sc. (Hons) in Agriculture and Diploma in Education in 1988.

He was a teaching assistant at the School of Agriculture at the same University from 1988 to 1990 during his national service and became a science tutor at Nkawkaw Secondary School from 1990 to 1993 and joined Ghana Commercial Bank in April 1993.
