Bososo community library inaugurated

Bososo (E/R) May 6, GNA - The Bososo Community Resource Library, a community-initiated project in the Fanteakwa District was inaugurated on Wednesday with a 10-member Library Board under the chairmanship of Mr Emmanuel Ansah Adjei, a prominent farmer.

The community provided shelves and furniture at a cost of six million cedis for the library, which is housed in a renovated old palace of the town. The Books For African Library Project, a non-governmental organisation based at Akim Kukurantumi in the East Akim District, donated a large quantity of books on various subjects for the library.

Speaking at the function, Mr Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, Member of Parliament for Fanteakwa pledged to donate two computers and accessories for the library through his share of the MP's Common Fund and also sponsor the Library Board secretary to undertake computer literacy training to enable him train the youth in the town to become computer literates.

He stressed the importance of education, which he said, was a continuous process and shared responsibility and urged parents to supplement the efforts of teachers by providing the basic education needs of their children.

Mr Ofosu Ampofo suggested the introduction of a system whereby parents would be made to sign the homework given to the wards by teachers to help instil in them discipline at home.

He commended the chiefs and people for their foresight in providing the library and advised both the pupils and adults in the town to patronise the library to improve on their academic standards.

The Fanteakwa District Chief Executive, Mr Ebenezer Ofoe Caesar, also commended the people for their initiative and urged them to continue with their self-help to improve upon their living standards and pledged the assembly's support.

According to him, since development is determined by quality of education attained by the citizenry, the government was vigorously pursuing a number of policies and programmes for the provision of education facilities nationwide.

He advised the youth, who are the future leaders to put the facility to maximum use in order to inculcate in them the habits of reading.

Mr Oscar Zando, Acting Eastern Regional Librarian noted that the library in the community would support the educational efforts of the schools by providing information and materials complementary to the school curriculum as well as enhancing the efforts of teachers in the provision of teaching aids and reference books.

The Chief of the town, Barima Owusu Amankwa, called on the people to continue to support all self-help activities towards the upliftment of the socio-economic development of the area. May 6, 04
