Chief of Mahodwe in Agona Swedru and Gyaasehen of the Agona Nyakrom Traditional Area, Nana Kwame Donkor III, has attributed the numerous diseases which have become common among people all over the world, particularly Africans, to the excessive use and application of agro-chemicals and consumption of Genetically Modified Foods (GMOs).

Nana Kwame Donkor, who is a medium-scale farmer, made the revelation in an interview with Today.

According to him, the introduction of such agro-chemicals intended to improve yield were rather having adverse health implications on the human body.

These health implications, he added, have in turn brought about strange diseases among majority of the people who innocently consume such foods.

He said these chemicals contain harmful ingredients that can cause harm to the body organs, but could not be realised because of their smaller intakes.

The chief further hinted these agro-chemicals when applied also kill slow and crawling animals such as snails and tortoises as well as mushrooms and other termites that fertilise the soil.

He, therefore, warned farmers to guard against the excessive use of agro-chemicals and weedicides, stressing that the ministry of food and agriculture must help reduce the importation of the numerous agro-chemicals into the country.

That, he said, if not adhered to, would affect the life expectancy of many people.
