Assin DCE caution cocoa spraying gangs

Assin Foso (C/R), Dec 22, GNA - The Assin District Chief Executive, Mr Kwabena Karikari Apau, has cautioned cocoa spraying gangs in the district against diversion and dilution of chemicals and extortion, which are having an adverse effect on the exercise.

Mr Apau, who was speaking at the third ordinary session of the assembly at Assin Foso, attributed the situation to lack of supervision of the gangs and called on the assembly members to help ensure that they are properly supervised.

He said the government had committed a lot of resources towards the exercise, adding that, only a few farmers would benefit if such malpractices were not checked.

On the President's Special Initiative on cassava and oil palm, Mr Apau said groups and individuals had planted 13 cassava nurseries covering 43 acres in addition to three main nurseries at Assin-Praso, Nsuta and Achiase and an oil palm nursery at Akonfodi.

Mr Apau said 2,150 farmers in the district were also involved in cocoa hi-tech project that ensures the supply of inputs such as fertilizers and chemicals to farmers in addition to training on their use.

Touching on roads, he said apart from the start of work on Foso town roads, some feeder roads are under construction. These include the eight-kilometre Akonfudi-Atwereboanda road, the six-kilometre Beenuye-Camp Sea-Kojo road, the four- kilometre Nuanua number two-Bunso road and the six kilometre Assin Ngyeresi-Otabilkrom road.
