Rotary Club of Duncan donates hospital equipment to Wa hospital

Tema, Nov. 27, GNA- Mr Moses Dani Baah, Deputy Minister of Health on, Wednesday, took delivery of medical items donated by the Rotary Club of Duncan in British Colombia for the Wa District Hospital at a ceremony at Tema. The Minister handed over the items, shipped by the Rotary Club of Accra to Dr Edward Gyader, Medical Superintendent in charge of the Wa hospital. The items included 30 beds with mattresses, medical supplies, eleven pieces of computers, anaesthesia machines, medical books, clothing, wheel/bath chairs, crutches and stretchers.

Mr Dani Baah commended the donors for the gesture and said Ghana and the Rotary Club International are friendly in the area of eradication of poliomyelitis saying the donation goes to strengthen the existing relations. He said the equipment has come at a time the districts hospitals need them to enhance their work.

Dr Gyader was grateful to the Club and promised that they would be put to good use for the benefit of the entire region. He said malaria tops ailments reported at the OPD and it is the first cause of death at the hospital.

Talking about why people in the area resorting to self-medication, Dr Gyader said the hospital is not accessible to most people coupled with the high cost of drugs.

He, however, stated that the education embarked upon by the National Health Service is showing signs of improvement.

Mr Kenneth D. Laryea, past president of the Rotary Club of Accra West who made the presentation on behalf of the donors said medical experts are expected to come down to train the staff of the Wa hospital to assemble and train them on how to use the equipment. GNA
