DCE appeals to teachers to work harder

Ajumako (C/R,) Nov 17, GNA - A District Chief Executive has appealed to teachers to work harder than before to bring a positive change in the academic performance of school children.

Mr Kenneth Obempong, the District Chief Executive for Ajumako-Esiam-Anyan, said this when he addressed a general meeting of the Central Regional branch of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT).

He attributed the falling standards of education in the district to indiscipline on the part of some teachers and parents and called for a concerted effort to address the situation.

Mr Obempong appealed to teachers to be committed and dedicated to their work and endeavour to be role models by leading exemplary lives.

Mr Thomas Baafi, the Central Regional GNAT Secretary, expressed concern about the non-payment of entitlements like T&T, transfer grants and supervision allowances for teachers and appealed to the government to make budgetary allocation for the settlement of such entitlements.

He said GNAT, in conjunction with the consultative council of teachers association, has began courses to upgrade teachers who teach technical skills and appealed to the teachers concerned to embrace the programme.

Mr Baafi suggested formation of a retired teachers league to enable them impart their rich experiences to those still at post.
