Buahen, the Amankrado of Akyem Asunafo in the Atiwa District of the Eastern Region, has been destooled for allegedly encouraging and engaging illegal mining activities in the area.

Residents of the area have been up in arms with the chief for his alleged involvement in galamsey activities despite the level of destruction it causes to land and water bodies especially.

The residents who are mostly cocoa farmers indicated that if they allow the illegal miners to continue destroying lands, they are likely to be denied their only source of livelihood.

The Assembly member for the area who is also a royal to the Agona clan told Koforidua-based Bryte Fm that the family took the decision with all the appropriate leaders since the Amankrado has failed to respect numerous attempts to bring him to order.

“We see him as a disgrace to the whole Agona family and took the action in accordance with customs and traditions of the land,” He indicated.

“We are told almost four mining companies has been permitted to mine on our lands which we are seriously against because we wonder how our own Chief and Amankrado be the intermediary,” Some aggrieved farmers disclosed.
