Afigya-Kwabre takes steps to improve performance

The Afigya-Kwabre District Assembly has taken deliberate steps to aid its newly elected members to have better understanding of the assemblies’ standing orders.

This is to ensure order and improve the quality of debate at its sittings and sub-committee meetings.

The 60 members were taken through laid down procedures and meeting rules during the two-day training.

Mr. Kwaku Oppong-Kyekyeku Kaakyire, the District Chief Executive (DCE), said it was important for everybody to be abreast of the local government and rural development concept.

That, he pointed out, was vital for efficient functioning of the assembly – to bring development to the people.

He reminded the assembly members that those they were representing expected a lot from them and that they needed to pull together to propel the development agenda of the assembly.

He advised them to regularly attend meetings to articulate the development concerns of the people in their electoral areas.

They should also show keen interest in efforts at strengthening the assembly’s revenue collection, telling them that, the ability to support development projects in the communities was dependent on the strength of its finances.

Mr. Pat Eghan, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Haneg Planning Consult, the facilitators, said meetings were governed by rules, which must be respected.
