Minister of Foreign Affairs donates furniture to schools

Kukurantumi, Oct 14, GNA - The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Member of Parliament for Abuakwa, Nana Addo-Dankwa Akuffo Addo, has donated 135 pieces of mono-desks costing 30 million cedis to three schools in the East-Akyem District at Kukurantumi on Tuesday. The beneficiary schools were Nana Korkor Dah-Mansah JSS at Kukurantumi, Nkronso JSS and Kibi JSS.

Donating the furniture on behalf of the MP, Nana Amfo Kwakye, an opinion leader, said the items were purchased with the MP's share of the Common Fund to help alleviate the plight of schoolchildren in the district.

The Assemblyman of the area, Mr Amaning Twum received the items on behalf of the schools at a short ceremony and in turn handed them over to the head teachers of the various schools.

Earlier, the District Chief Executive for East-Akyem, Mr Emmanuel Asihene, accompanied by the chief of Kukurantumi, Osabarima Kena Ampaw, inspected a three-classroom unit being funded by the Queen mother of Kukurantumi Nana Korkor Dah-Mansah Asante at a cost of 250 million cedis.

Nana Kena Ampaw said the Queen mother was touched by the plight of the school children due to the congestion in the classrooms and decided to put up the classroom block from her own resources to compliment the efforts of the Assembly.

He noted that improved education was the issue most discussed at all the traditional council meetings and how it could support the Assembly to provide a conducive environment for learning. He commended the Queen mother for her bold initiative.

Mr Asihene said the Assembly was in the process of furnishing all the 122 junior secondary schools in the district with mono-desks to facilitate quality education and good BECE results.

He described the timing of the donation of the desks and the building as a step in the right direction and pledged 10 million cedis as the Assembly's quota in support of the project.

Mr Asihene lauded the collaboration between the MP and the Assembly and expressed the hope that all projects would be executed within the stipulated time. 15 Oct. 03
