Tamale Metro Assembly inaugurates new market complex

The Tamale Metropolitan Assembly (TMA) as part of its agenda to facilitate what it describes as local economic development within the metropolitan area, has inaugurated a new market complex at Kakpagyili community, a suburb of the Tamale Metropolis.

The market complex funded by the Assembly through the Urban Development Grant (UDG) cost 440, 595 Ghana cedis.

The inauguration of the market in Kakpagyili brings to five (5) satellite markets being built by the metropolitan assembly within the metropolitan area.

Some of these markets include, expansion and reconstruction of Lamashegu market, construction of Kakpagyili and the reconstruction and upgrading of the Tamale Central Market as well as the Aboaboo Lorry Park and reconstruction of Aboaboo market as well as the Datoyili bus terminal.

Delivering his address, the Mayor of Tamale, Abdul-Rahman Hanan Guide down said the assembly is aggressively pursuing a local economic development to leverage the people especially women from poverty.

This According to the Mayor will put Tamale at its rightful position in the total transformational and developmental agenda of the country.

The Mayor reiterated the intention of the Metropolitan Assembly to progressively construct new markets to rebrand Tamale as the gateway to the Sahel and as well boost economic activities.

Abdul-Rahman Gundadow told Fiila News in an interview that the assembly reckoned the fact that it is through economic activities that the living conditions of the masses can be improved hence the need to embark on the trajectory of constructing more markets in the metropolis.

The Mayor revealed that government has outlined plans to assist women to venture into economic activities to help improve their livelihood.

He commended the Chief of the area for releasing the land for the project and urged other chiefs in the metropolis to emulate the gesture.
