Quality of graduates in Ghana poor – Aluworks boss

The Managing Director of Aluworks, Ernest Kwesi Okoh has described as worrying the quality of graduates being churned out in Ghana.

His statement comes weeks after President Mahama charged heads of universities to make their curricula more practical to industry.

According to Mr. Okoh, industries in the country are struggling with recruitment due to the poor quality of graduates available in the country.

He added that many of the graduates find it difficult to fit in and become relevant when employed in the various industries.

“Every year we struggle to find good people. Now good people doesn’t mean they don’t know their technical work, if you ask them something along the lines of the curriculum you get a fantastic answer but whether they can use it or not is a different story.

“You want people who can apply the skill they have learnt in school and understand that it is part of enterprise development…don’t come and quote to me what you learnt in school, it is now time for application”.
