Bekwai youth development launched

The Youth of Bekwai, a town in the Ashanti Region has launched a club to help promote unity and undertake developmental projects to support government’s endeavors in the region. Known as the Bekwai Youth Club, the association also seeks to promote interests and welfare of the youth in the Bekwai community.

The official launch was graced by dignitaries in Bekwai who pledged ready support for the growth of club. Notable personalities at the launch include, Hon. Joe Osei Owusu, MP for Bekwai, Hon. Mary Juantuah MCE of Bekwai, Nana Adwoa Pinaman II, Paramount queen of Bekwai, elders of Nana Karikari Appau II, paramount chief of Bekwai, representatives from the Ghana Police and the Zongo community.

Addressing audience at the launch and induction of new executive team, Hon Osei Owusu, MP for Bekwai stated that the youth play critical role in the existence and growth of every community. “The youth is the heartbeat of every modern community of which Bekwai is no exception. Our progress and advancement in all aspects of life in this community depends largely on our youth today.

As we are launching the Bekwai Youth Development Club, we are hoping to bring this community together, initiate developmental projects that encompass education, health, and social well-being. We have created this club to give our youth a great sense of responsibility that will go far to impact positively on this community, our individual homes, and our co-existence as a town under the Bekwai Municipal in the Ashanti Region”.

Hon. Osei Owusu congratulated the Executive team and urged them to work hard to attract Non- governmental agencies for social development. He also urge them to avoid over reliance on government funds for community development.

The Municipal Chief Executive, Madam Mary Juantuah used the occasion to inform the community about the developmental projects government has begun and other plans for the community. She showed appreciation to the initiatives the youth has undertaken to complement the governmental activities and encouraged them to be focused.

The Patrons together with the club members donated GHS20,000 as seed money and promised the youth that the Patrons will act as an advisory body and will help them to raise funds for their intended projects.

Prior to the launch of the club, a series of activities were held to stir interests of the youth, create awareness, educate, and also create avenue for bonding. Some notable activities were, a football gala for the town and the neighboring communities, a free health screening in the Bekwai community, and a 3-month campaign on drug abuse. Also, a free NHIS registration was held for over 200 needy residents.

Former renowned Hiplife Rapper Lord Kenya now Evangelist and a motivational speaker addressed the youth on the effect of substance abuse by sharing his life experience with drugs.

Per the constitution, membership of the Association is open to every person born, resides or has any affiliation with Bekwai Ashanti between the ages of 25 years to 49 years and therefore inviting its citizens to join the association irrespective of where they are now.
