Police have stepped up their fight against crime in the Ashanti Region, as the New Year begins.

The command, under the watch of DCOP Kofi Boakye, has carried out a number of swoops that led to the arrest of suspected criminals and the seizure of narcotics and sophisticated weapons.

Speaking to Class News, Public Relations Officer for the Ashanti Regional Police Command, ASP Mohammed Yussif Tanko, said the service will build on the successes chalked last year.

“We always try to improve on our current circumstance, so, we are going to do more. I set an example with 2014 when we started. We were able to improve upon those statistics in 2015. In 2016, we are very positive that we are going to work hard to improve upon what we had,” he said.

ASP Tanko said the police command was poised to do its best in order to put criminals at bay, but advised that it was the responsibility of persons to also ensure their own security.

In his words, “Police or the security agencies will tell you they are going to give you the needed security but there is no security that is better than the security that you will give yourself.”
