Nkoranza inaugurates School Management Committee

Nkoranza (B/A), July 30, GNA- A 13-member District School Management Committee (SMC) has been inaugurated at Nkoranza in Brong Ahafo to ensure effective running of SMCs and Parent/Teacher Associations (PTAs) in the District.

The formation of the Committee follows the training of two bodies on roles and responsibilities of stakeholders in education under the Quality Improvement in Primary Schools (QUIPS) Project, a USAID-sponsored programme.

Mr George Appiah, an Associate Director of the Community School Alliances (CSA) project, explained that the District SMCs would visit schools to study problems and help find solutions to them.

The practice, he explained, will bring improvement in the performance of pupils and students.

Mr. Kwame Ampofo-Twumasi, District Chief Executive (DCE), appealed to District Directors of Education to send committed and hard working teachers to deprived areas to improve the low standard of education. He deplored the practice by some District Directors to post lazy teachers who regularly take alcohol to such areas as a means of punishment, saying the practice rather compounded the problems of the teachers.

The DCE called on the SMCs and PTAs to show great concern for teachers posted to their areas.

Mr. Ampofo-Twumasi appealed to them to organise open days in schools and reward hard working pupils and students to entice parents to fully support their children's education.
