Show honesty in revenue collection

Kobreso (Ash), July 30, GNA - Mr Kwaku Appiah-Kagya, Offinso District Director of National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), has called on revenue collectors of district assemblies to exhibit a high sense of honesty and integrity in their work.

He said there seemed to be a lot of collusion between revenue collectors and taxpayers that enabled the latter to dodge the payment of taxes.

This, he said, has forced the district assemblies to depend almost entirely on the District Assemblies' Common Fund for all development projects.

Mr Appiah-Kagya was speaking at an education forum organised by the District Directorate of the NCCE at Kobreso in the Offinso District on Tuesday.

The forum formed part of a programme to educate the people on the Constitution to enable them to assert their rights and responsibilities. The chiefs and people of the Asuoso Area Council that comprises Asempanaye, Brehome, Nkwaakwaa, Darso, Asuoso, Mantukwa and Modekwae attended it.

Mr Appiah-Kagya asked the people to be law-abiding and contribute their quota towards the socio-economic development of the country and stressed the need for unity in the communities, saying that it was a pre-requisite for development.

Mr Paul Yankyera, a Field Officer at the NCCE District Directorate, urged the people to meet regularly to deliberate on problems militating against the development of the area and find solutions to them. He called on assembly members to interact regularly with the electorate to enable them to move abreast with development plans and programmes of the assembly.

Mr Sampson Appiah-Kubi, Chairman of the Asuoso Area Council, urged the various unit committees to be active and lead the people to improve upon their standard of living.

He said the assembly was working hard to provide infrastructure development in the area and as such, there was the need for them to reciprocate this gesture by honouring their tax obligations.
