KPASEC year 83-86 group tackles school’s water flow problem

The 1983-86 year groups of the Kpando Secondary School (KPASEC) Old Students Association (KOSA) have provided water reservoirs to help tackle the perennial water problem in the school.

Students regular have to go out of campus to look for water and they go as far as to a nearby rivulet, called Aziavi.

Female students interacting with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) during the formal handing over of two 10,000 litre capacity water reservoirs on Saturday, said some of them have had encounters with snakes during some of the trips.

Other sources of water for the students were from the Kpando Technical Institute, across the street, wells, taps and ponds in town.

Mr Aaron Adansi, KOSA86 Year Group Chairman, told the GNA that the group procured the two reservoirs at GH¢7,300.00.

He said the group had reached some understanding with school authorities to also provide large size garbage bins for the school.

Dr Samuel Abudey, Compatriot Group Member and local organizer said the tentative plan was to provide additional reservoirs to meet the rising student population.

Mr Daniel Diboa, Headmaster said the school provided the platforms for the reservoirs at a total cost of GH¢2,000.00.

He said the school with a population of 1,700 students had three mechanized boreholes.

Mr Diboa said lack of regular power and cost of it, (power), along with low storage capacity, were causes of the rather regular need for students to go out searching for water.

Eligibility for membership of the year group, according to documents made available to the media, were that “a full member shall be a person who had completed KPANSEC either as an Ordinary ‘O’ Level or Advance ‘A’ Level student in the period 1983-1986”.

The group inaugurated in 2014, has room for Associate and Honorary members.

Its aims, besides socializing and networking, is to raise funds to support development of their former school founding 62 years ago.
