31st DMW Projects Shut Down in E/R

Since The Chronicle reported the closure of numerous projects set up by the 31st December Women's Movement (31 DWM) in the Eastern region, the paper's regional office has been inundated with telephone calls from some of its regular readers who give leads to other closed down projects in their communities.

Some others have also called personally at the regional office to present photographs of some of the closed-down 31 DWM projects in their areas for publication.

This Kumasi Ventilated Improved Pit (KVIP) toilet at Labolabo in the Asuogyaman district was constructed by the movement some years ago for what observers consider the purpose of winning massive support for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), which the movement is affiliated to.

The KVIP facility got choked a few months after it had been commissioned by the movement's founder, Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings, denying the residents of Labolabo a place of convenience.

Also, residents in the Volta River Authority (VRA) resettlement area at New Dodi have once again appealed to the president to rehabilitate their unit structures (houses) which are collapsing one after the other - sometimes causing severe injuries to occupants.

They also appealed to the district chief executive for Asuogyaman to rehabilitate their KVIP or put up a new one for them to have a public place of convenience.
