Rotary Club holds walk to raise funds for health Centre

The Rotary Club of Accra Ring Road Central (RRC) on Saturday held a walk to raise funds for the Ayirebi Health Centre in the Eastern Region.

The five- kilometre fundraising walk dubbed: “Walk for a Child,” which started at 0630 hours from the Ayi Mensah Barrier to the Peduase Lodge saw about 150 to 200 Rotarians taking part.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency, Mr Laud Ashon, President, RRC said the walk aimed at raising GH? 20,000.00 in aid of the Health Centre.

He noted that the RRC has adopted the Centre and working on upgrading the facility since 2012

“In 2015, RRC is focusing on the provision of essential equipment for the disease control unit at an estimated cost of about $ 45,000.

“The support to the Ayirebi Health Centre will continue till 2017,” he said.

Mr Ashon added that the walk also aimed at supporting Rotary’s broader objectives, adding: “As Rotarians two of our six areas of focus are sanitation and health, so the projects fall in line with Rotaries objectives and also will largely contribute towards improving healthcare in our project areas.”

Concurrently, RRC has launched an environmental campaign along the route.

The campaign aims at promoting a “Clean Walkway” for pedestrians and motorists.

In all RCC provided 15 litter bins from the Ayi Mensah barrier to Peduase stretch of the road.

Mr Kwadjo Afari Djan, Akuapem South District Chief Executive, inaugurated the litter bins and handed them over to the Akwapim South District Assembly.
