The Agona West Municipal Directorate of the Zoomlion Waste Company has emptied 23 out of the 26 waste containers in the Agona Swedru Township that had become full for the past three weeks.

Mr Christian Ocran, Agona West Director of the Zoomlion Waste Company who made this known to the press at Agona Swedru on Sunday, said the company was not able to collect the refuse, because of the break-down of their trucks.

Mr Ocran said the Agona West Municipal Assembly had also released its skip loader to assist in the collection of the refuse.

He said three areas left to be collected are Nsusoso, Woraba and Agona Swedru Central Market.

Mr Ocran said Management of Zoomlion was working around the clock to ensure the release of fund to pay salary arrears of its workers.

He said the company was facing challenges, but gave the assurance that management was trying its best to resolve the impasse between it and workers.

It would be recalled that last week, residents of Agona West protested vehemently against poor sanitation in Agona West, and therefore urged the Municipal Assembly to terminate its contract with Zoomlion.

According to the residents, the company had more than three weeks now, failed to collect refuse in the Municipality, and the situation could have resulted in the outbreak of cholera and other epidemics.
