Bushfire destroys 30-acre cocoa farm

Bushfire at the weekend razed a 30-acre cocoa farm belonging to four farmers at Nobekaw, near Kukuom in the Asunafo District of Brong Ahafo.

Nana Appiah-Kubi, one of the farmers, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Nobekaw that he and his three other colleagues had, on the eve of the incident, prepared a fire-belt around their farms, and suspected that someone deliberately caused it.

Alhaji Ishak A. Bonsu, Asunafo District NADMO Co-ordinator who confirmed the incident, expressed regret that the relative reduction in bushfires in the area over the past year had suddenly given way to "the wanton disregard for life and property in the district by some perpetrators".

He advised people with negative ideas to refrain from the practice or be ready to face the law.

The NADMO Co-ordinator appealed to farmers to protect their farms well against bushfires.

Alhaji Bonsu reminded anti-bushfire squads in the district to be vigilant to save lives and property from destruction.
