Haatso Mantse calls for peaceful Assembly Elections

Nii Amarh Sogblah IV, Haatso Mantse, has called on the chiefs and people in the country to ensure that the District Level Elections was held in a peaceful atmosphere.

He noted that the situation where some chiefs hide behind the scene and foment trouble do not augur well in the country’s infant democracy.

Nii Sogblah, who made the call in an interview with the Ghana News Agency in Accra on Tuesday, also advised the electorate to desist from buying votes which he said contravened the laws governing elections.

‘’You must exercise your franchise in every elections and choose your assemblyman for your area and when you sell your vote, how are you going to vote? he questioned.

Nii Sogblah cautioned assembly members who go into hiding after being voted into the assembly and resurfaces during another election should stop that practice and focus on the development of their areas.

He advised the losers to accept defeat in good faith and support the winning candidates to develop their communities.

The Haatso Mantse also appealed to the government to declare March 3, a public holiday to enable many people to take part in the election.

He urged drinking bars to close their shops on the elections day so that some people do not vote under the influence of alcohol which he said can create confusion at polling stations.

Nii Sogblah appealed to the government to find a solution to the power crisis, which he said was affecting businesses.
