Tamale To Host February National Sanitation Day

As part of the government avowed quest to get rid of the country out of overwhelming filth being saddled with by the citizenry, with its associate sicknesses such as cholera, Malaria, typhoid, diarrhoea etc. in consequence of that, state uses scarce resources which otherwise could have been used to advance the So-cio economic progress of the nation, and to combat the spread of these sicknesses, in pursuance of that, The National Sanitation Day, has been instituted 1st Saturday in every Month, under the auspices of Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development ( MLGRD), to aggressively championed the campaign such that all and sundry would be a player to this laudable call in order to achieve its intended purpose.

The Northern Regional Minister, Honourable Alhaji, Muhamed Muniru- Lemuna, at a press briefing in Tamale, yesterday, indicated that this Month National Sanitation Day exercise, The region would play host the event for that matter the MLGRD, would concurrently run its ministry at a designated place in the RCC, for a one week duration, which would kick tart from 2nd February to 7th 2015.

This according to him would ensure that adequate time and resources would be used to aggressively to tackle the filth head-on, to save some of the avoidable deaths in the region.

Hon Lemuna, said he had earlier on met with the MMDCE, s and the MMCD,s in the region, on the intended campaign to get their respectives MMDA,s actively involved .

He stressed that a team would be divided into two, headed by the Minister of LGRD, HON, Julius Debra, and his two able deputies across the 26 MMDAs, in the Northern region through-out the one week Sanitation exercise.

The Regional Minister, intimated that as part of the action plan for the Sanitation Campaign drive, the Two teams are expected to call on the four Traditional kingdoms; namely The Mamprugu, The yagbon, The Dagbon and The Nanums, who’s respective Traditional Authorities would lead the clean-up exercise, since it is a National in character in order to ensure the sustainability of the president directive.

Hon Lemuna, emphasised that in order to further whip -up public interest in the Sanitation crusade, celebrities in the likes of Braima Kamoko, alias Bukom Bunkum, a popular Ghanaian local boxer would be engaged as an ambassador for the Sanitation campaign in the Region.

The Deputy Minister of Local Government and Rural Development (MLGRD) Honourable Nii Lamptey Vanderpuyer, used the rare occasion to admonished the media practitioners in the region to endeavour to sensitized the general public to embrace Sanitation campaign .

Hon Nii Lamptey, who also double as the Member of Parliament(MP) for the Odododiodio constituency in Accra, was of the view that the National Sanitation Day, has come to stay given the tremendous support it has received from the well-meaning Ghanaians and other corporate institutions in the country.

He further reiterated that the government Sanitation concept agenda is not politically inclined stressing that all interested groupings must join the Sanitation Campaign to make it successful.

On his part The Member of Parliament (MP) for the Yapei Kusougu Constituency, Honourable Alhaji Amadu Seidu, said Sanitation crusade is an essential endeavour for everyone to be part of in reducing the menace of filth in the country.

Present at the function were the representative of the MLGRD, The Regional Coordinating Council, as well as Some MMDC E,s in the region.
