Minister calls for ecumenism to promote unity

Mr Antwi-Boasiako Sekyere, Eastern Regional Minister, has called for extensive promotion of ecumenism as done in the Military during its religious parades, to help promote national unity, tolerance and peace.

He made the call at the first quarter Religious Parade of the First Battalion of Infantry at Michel Camp.

During the parade, which is a religious service, all the soldiers of the battalion attend the service and verses from the Bible and Koran are read while two sermons; one by a Christian leader and the other by a Moslem leader, are preached.

Mr Antwi-Boasiako congratulated the Military for its support in 2014 which helped maintain the peace in the Eastern Region and appealed to for the necessary support to the Regional Co-ordinating Council to get rid of illegal mining, deforestation and problems created by Fulani herdsmen which are giving the region a bad name.

He said Ghana had a bright future and what was needed was for the country to remain focused, have trust in the leadership of the country and do away with laziness, greed and unnecessary blame game.

Lieutenant Colonel Fredrich Ntiri, Commanding Officer of the Battalion, urged the soldiers to respond early when called because it could be a call from God and any delay may result in the lost of God’s favour.

Reverend Father Major Ack Kemetwse, who preached the sermon, said God calls His people through their professions and vocations and, therefore, appealed to adults, especially parents, to help the youth to identify their God-given talents and support them to pursue them.

He called on the youth to seek advice from their parents and adults when they were in difficulties and appealed to all Ghanaians to respond positively to the call of God in 2015 for the country to enjoy a prosperous and a successful year.

In a Moslem sermon, Shiekh Husein Yeboah observed that because some people had not been worshiping God as they should, when they had the slightest challenge, instead of praying to God for support, they resorted to drinking which never helped to overcome their challenges.

He called on Christians and Moslems to worship God with all their hearts so as to enjoy His intervention in times of difficulties.
