Anglogold supports Bekwai

Anglogold Ashanti has contributed GHc10,000 towards the celebration of the 15th anniversary of the enstoolment of Nana Karikari Appau II, as Bekwai Omanhene, who has announced to give priority to the promotion of education.

The mining firm made the presentation at the durbar of chiefs and people of the Bekwai Traditional Area recently to climax the week long celebration at Bekwai. Hon. Joseph Osei-Owusu and Hon. Kwasi Gyamfi, Members of Parliament for Bekwai and Odotobiri respectively, donated GHc1,000 each while Hon. Appiah Pinkrah, MP for Akrofuom donated GHc500.

The Offinsohene, Nana Wiafe Akenten III contributed GHc600; Adansi Traditional Council GHc500; Nana Bi-Kusi Appiah, Omanhene of Manso Nkwanta GHc300 and Nsutamanhene Nana Bonsafo GHc400. Other contributions were Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission GHc100, Forestry Commission (Bekwai) GHc100 and Electricity Company of Ghana (Bekwai) GHc300.

Nana Karikari Appau II has assured that the Bekwai Traditional Council (KTC) would concentrate on promoting education in the areas of teacher motivation and build the human resource base of the area by assisting the brilliant but needy students under its Scholarship scheme, as part of its agenda to promote education. He said the Council has been inspired by the fact that education is the key to development.

The chief indicated that about 60 students have benefitted from the scheme since it was instituted in 2002 and that a total of GHc15,851 has so far been expended for beneficiaries at all levels of education.

Nana Karikari Appau expressed appreciation to the people and corporate entities that had supported the development of the area over the years. The Omanhene called for Unity among the people for development. He also called for a concerted effort for the preservation of cultural values and norms to help build a better society.
