Two Contestants For NPP Regional Chairmanship Step Down

With three days to go for the Brong Ahafo Regional congress of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), two contestants for the Chairmanship have withdrawn from the race. Nana Obiri Boahen, a legal practitioner and Nana Yaw Barima, a retired civil servant announced their decision at a press conference in Sunyani, stating that their action was "in the supreme interest of the party and the Region".

The congress, scheduled to take place about two months ago was postponed on several occasions to Sunday, January 26 due to internal wrangling. A registered member of the party dragged the incumbent chairman, Kwadwo Yeboah Fordjour, to court over his eligibility.

The two promised to throw their full weight behind Kwadwo Yeboah Fordjour and the leadership "with their knowledge, experience, wisdom and everything to move the party forward".

"This, they hoped, will provide the much needed peace within the party and give the party leadership the right atmosphere and focus to move the party forward".

The two have also agreed to work together to withdraw a court case pending at the Sunyani High court on the eligibility of the incumbent chairman.

The two former contestants in response to questions said their decision was not due to any pressure from anywhere nor had they been given any monies as being speculated, but that their decision was in the supreme interest of the party and its growth in the region.
