Osu inducts five into Traditional Council

The Osu Traditional Council, on Thursday, inducted five traditional leaders into the council at a ceremony held at the Palace of Osu Mantse.

They are Nii Kwabena Bonne V, Osu Alata Mantse; Nii Amarh Soglah IV, Haatso Mantse; Numo Narku Agbeti, Osu-Klottey Wulormo; Numo Gbelenfo III, Gua Wulormo and Nii Saban Atsen VII, Gyaasetse.

Mrs. Justice Rebecca Naa Shormeh Sittie, a High Court Judge, led the members to administer the oath of secrecy and the judicial oath.

She advised them to help the chief to meet the aspirations of the people and always learn the new dynamics of chieftaincy that pertains elsewhere to move the area forward.

In a welcoming address, Nii Okwei Kinka Dowuona VI, the President of the Osu Traditional Council called on the newly inducted members to work hard and selflessly for the development of the community.

He said with the establishment of a Traditional Council and the induction of members, “we have today a mouthpiece for Osu and wish to entreat all and sundry that all communications and any other issues concerning Osu must be channeled through the council for effective and collective action to be taken.

“With the Council, we have been given the opportunity to manage our own affairs both traditionally and economically. Very soon, chiefs in the various communities under Osu will be sworn as members of the council.”

The Osu Traditional Area stretches from the seashore boundaries with La and Ga Mashie and runs through Nima, Mamobi, Kotobabi, Dzorwulu, Roman Ridge, parts of Achimota, Papao or West Legon, Haatso, Ayi Mensah and under the maintains of Aburi.

Mr. Harry A. Attipoe, Registrar of the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs, urged the people to put a stop to litigations and rivalry as the area had attained a Traditional Council status.

He urged them to channel their problems or any information through the Council for amicable resolution and desist from unanimous and unproductive letter writing to some high offices.

Mr. Attipoe also urged the council members not to engage in judicial matters because they have not been gazetted, but they should wait patiently till that was done, adding that, he would work assiduously for them to be gazetted.
