We need a SHS in Mognori - Opinion Leader

Mr Ali Salifu, an opinion leader in the Bawku East Municipality, has appealed to President John Dramani Mahama to cite a Senior High School in Mognori to help improve the lot of the community.

He said in line with President Mahama’s promise to establish 200 new senior high schools, a rapidly growing community like Mognori deserves one.

Mr Salifu, who made the appeal in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, in Tema on Monday, said Mognori plays a key role in Ghana’s economy as a major entry point of cattle from Burkina Faso, to meet the demands of the meet market.

He said the significance of Mognori could be attested by the fact that, besides the Bawku township, the presidential candidates of the two leading political parties in the country during the 2012 general elections made stopovers to address mammoth rallies in the community.

He said Mognori as a swing community was very instrumental in determining who becomes the Member of Parliament for the Bawku Central Constituency.

Mr Salifu said some parcels of land required by the government in Mognori during the early post independence era which had still not been utilized could be used for educational purposes.

He said the people were willing to support the government in this direction so that education could be brought to their door step, adding that surrounding communities like Badu, Tampizuaga, Baribari, Jentiga Number One, Two and Three, among others will equally benefit from it.
