Pelungu Primary School building poses threat to lives of pupils

George Mbabon Nangorha, who describes himself as a concerned citizen, has called on the Ghana Education Service (GES) to rehabilitate the Pelungu Primary School in the Nabdam District to save the lives of the pupils.

He told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on Wednesday that the kindergarten and primary school building which were constructed in the 1950s are on the verge of collapse after its roof was ripped off by a storm in 1997. The structure has also developed deep cracks.

Mr Nangorha said the 207 pupils and their teachers are therefore compelled to hold lessons under trees.

Madam Martha Atingbire, Head teacher of the school, confirmed the situation to the GNA and said an appeal to GES and District Assembly to remedy the situation had fallen on deaf ears.
