Nine babies delivered in Cape Coast during Christmas

The Central Regional Hospital on Christmas Day recorded no deliveries as of about 11:40 hours but two women were rushed to the theatre for caesarean delivery.

A midwife at the maternity department told the GNA that five babies were safely delivered on Christmas eve.

At the Ewim Urban Health Centre in Cape Coast, Dr Dorothy Morgue, the medical officer in charge, said a baby girl was born between the early hours of 6:00hrs on Christmas day and both mother and baby were doing well.

When GNA visited the Cape Coast Metropolitan Hospitals at 8:30am, Madam Martha Afrifa a Senior Staff Midwifery said, there had not been any delivery at that time but there was one 16-year old expectant mother at the delivery room being monitored and expected to deliver within some few hours.

She said there were two deliveries on Christmas eve but unfortunately, one of them was still born.

Madam Afrifa said the surviving baby was delivered at 00:00hrs to Miss Salamatu Mamudu who was delivered by caesarean operation.
