Street Academy organises party for deprived children in Accra

The management of Street Academy, a Non-Governmental Organisation on Saturday organised a party for deprived children in the community to enable them socialize with each other for proper growth and development.

Mr Atta Lartey, Executive Director of Academy, said the event was to put smiles on the faces of these children who are future leaders of Ghana.

The event which is held annually was on the theme “Education is the Resource Power of Every Nation.”

He said the Academy was established to provide educational assistance for school drop-outs and other young people who did not get the chance to go to school.

Mr Lartey said the academy caters for the needs of poor urban children who cannot go to school for financial reasons and that most of the children come from poor neighborhoods like Chorkor, Bukom, James Town and Osu in Accra.

Mr Lartey said the Academy also provides sports, music and cultural training to help guide the children in the discovery of their talents.

He said that the Academy also runs a skills programme for young mothers without jobs who are trained in fashion design and making batik tie-and-dye fabrics.

He appealed to corporate agencies and other philanthropic organisations to assist the Academy accomplish its objectives.

Madam Mercy Needjah, President of Greater Accra Market Women Association, said there was the need to support street children to become responsible adults in society.

She called on corporate Ghana to come to the aid of these children to build a better society.
