Children eulogise Mills as Dede awards certificates

Children at two schools in Ablekuma South constituency over the weekend pleaded for peace and eulogised late president John Evans Atta Mills in poetry, song and dance as CPP parliamentary candidate, Dede Amanor-Wilks, handed out graduation awards.

At Ted Academy Educational and Development Centre in Banana Inn, Mamprobi, children delighted the audience with a range of cultural performances and captured the national mood in a performance eulogising late president Mills.

The Headmistress of Ted Academy, Mrs. Fiati Gadagabgi, reported progress in the school’s management and administration and appealed to pupils to show continuous seriousness in learning.

At Top Class Education Centre in Karikari-Brobbey at Agege, kindergarten graduands and seniors put on another exciting cultural display. The display kicked off with a cadet parade led by a brass band and a drum major who thrilled the audience with his skilful baton twirling.

Young children performed poems and sketches pleading for peace during the upcoming elections, while kindergarten graduands performed cultural dances from each of Ghana’s ten regions.

Speaking to the theme “Redefining Educational Values through Political Tolerance and Cultural Integration”, Dede Amanor-Wilks commended teachers and school governors for inculcating in children as young as five the sense that peace could be defended during elections and that tribal violence should be eschewed.

Noting that Ghana’s first president, Dr Kwame Nkrumah, had bestowed a legacy of unity on Ghanaians, Dede urged the school to continue to protect that legacy. She stressed the importance of ‘discipline’ as an integral tool in curriculum development.

She encouraged students to emulate the exemplary character of late president John Evans Atta Mills, who showed humility and eschewed the politics of insults and hate speech.

The event was chaired by the Head of Curriculum at Accra Metropolitan Educational Office, Mr. Frank Larnyor. Other speakers included school Administrator-Mrs. Annie Asamoah and UT Bank Abossey Okai branch manager, Mr. Jarvis Asiedu-Asante.
