Upper East Old Vandals donate to special School

The Upper East Regional branch of the Old Vandals Association has presented items to the Saint John Integrated Senior High Technical School at Tono in the Kassena-Nankana East District.

The items include foot wears, sewing machines, ceiling fans, television sets, water pump and a large size water storage tank.

Presenting the items, the President of the Upper East Branch of the Association, Dr. Francis Asanah, said the Association was worried about the deprived nature of the first Senior High and Technical School in the region that affords children with hearing impairment the opportunity to also have secondary and technical education.

He said this prompted the Association to contribute their quota towards solving some of the problems of the school, especially in the area of water, and that the items were bought with contributions from members of the Association.

Dr. Asanah said although the Association had existed for long in other parts of the country, it was officially formed in the Region in August 2006 and motivates students to climb higher the academic ladder.

He said plans were afoot by the Association to mechanize a borehole for the school to reduce the problems students face in getting water.

Mrs. Germima Kazaresam, the Headmistress of the School, said the Association was the first Ghanaian group to aid the school since its establishment in 2006 by the Navrongo- Bolgatanga Dioceses of the Catholic Church.

She said the school was facing challenges and needed to be supported to develop its infrastructure to admit more students, especially basic school students with hearing difficulties in the three regions of the north and other parts of the country.

Mrs. Kazaresam commended the Member of Parliament for Navrongo Central, Dr. Joseph Kofi Addah, and the District Assembly for their contribution towards the development of the School.

The school has a population of 328 students reading Technical and Secondary programmes.**
