Omanhene of Essikadu advises students to emulate late President Mills’ qualities

The Paramount Chief of Essikadu Traditional Area, Nana Kobena Nketsiah V, on Friday charged students in the country to emulate the character of the late President John Evans Atta Mills.

He extolled some unique qualities of the late President as modesty, humility, patience and hard work, as some shining traits that students in the country must emulate.

He expressed the hope that the demise of the late President would instill in us the spirit of unity, and renew our hope for a better future.

Nana Nketsiah gave the advice as a guest speaker at the 10th Anniversary of Christ the King Methodist Preparatory School in Takoradi.

It was on the theme: “Christ the King at Ten: Its Achievements, Challenges and the Way Forward”.

He stated that the hallmark of every great educationist was discipline and charged the students to exhibit high sense of moral uprightness and discipline in all their endeavors for successful career.

Nana Nketsiah, Head of the History Department of the University of Cape Coast, stressed critical thinking and creativity as some values that would save the nation and bring accelerated national development.

He called for collaboration between parents, school management and students in ensuring quality education delivery.

“God has embedded in us special abilities, but it depends on how we shall make use of them that will make us successful people therefore we must start dreaming now and work towards our goals,” he stressed.

The Headmistress of the school, Madam Grace Konadu, said the school had chalked academic successes in the past 10 years and paid glowing tribute to the founding members for their meritorious contributions, to the success story of the school.

She, however, appealed to the School Management Committee (SMC), Parents /Teachers Association (PTA) and other stakeholders, to provide them with library facility, computers, additional bus, classrooms and textbooks, to enhance teaching and learning.

The Headmistress said the school would soon acquire a new land for the expansion of its infrastructure due to growing student population. Established in 2002, the school currently has 390 students, 20 teachers, and eight non-teaching staff.

The school presented an amount of GH¢1, 000 to the Ghana Heart Foundation as its widow’s mite towards ensuring quality healthcare in the country.

It also presented certificates and prizes to past and current students, who excelled in their examinations, as well as staff for their meritorious service towards the sustenance of the school over the years.**
