Sekondi-Takoradi mourns President Mills

Most Government workers in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis on Wednesday wore mourning attire to the office to express their sorrow over the death of President John Evans Atta Mills.

While majority wore black clothing with red bands around their neck and wrists, others appeared in red.

Some “trotro” drivers also tied red bands around their vehicles while some market women at the Takoradi central market also “dressed” their sheds in red and black colors.

Soon after the announcement of the President’s death on Tuesday afternoon, residents were seen gathered in groups discussing and expressing shock at the President’s death.

The shocking news compelled the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly (STMA) to adjourn its sitting planned for Wednesday to August 1.

Captain Anthony Cudjoe (rtd), the Metropolitan Chief Executive, announced the postponement of the sitting in tears when addressing the members some of whom could not hold back their tears.

He described late President Mills as humble, simple and a modest person and said he admired his resilience in spite of his ill-health and did not react to insults, but continued to execute his duties diligently.

Capt. Cudjoe appealed to Ghanaians to emulate the late President’s ideals and qualities by working in unity irrespective of political affiliations.

“Let our utterances, and general behavior bring us together and remain focused as we mount political platforms to ensure that the elections are conducted in peace,” he said.**
