GJA expresses shock over President Mills' death

The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) on Wednesday expressed its condolences to the wife of former President John Evans Atta Mills, the family and the people of Ghana for the tragic loss of the president.

A statement signed in Accra by Mr. Ransford Tetteh, President of GJA said the Association received the sudden death of President Mills with deep shock.

The statement said the national executive had been looking forward to meeting President Mills during a planned courtesy call on him in honour of the President of the International Federation of Journalists Jim Boumelha, who would be visiting Ghana for the first time as the special guest at the 17th GJA Awards scheduled for Saturday, 25th August, 2012.

It however reminded journalists and the media to remember that in times of personal grief or distress, such as the one Ghana was currently confronted with, there was the need to “exercise tact and diplomacy in seeking information and publishing” as required under Article 16 of the GJA Code of Ethics”.**
