GJA receives sponsorship packages towards 2012 Awards

The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) on Tuesday received sponsorship packages from four corporate bodies towards the 17th GJA Awards scheduled for August 25.

The organizations are Voltic Ghana Limited, Airtel Ghana, Ghana Commercial Bank (GCB) and Ghana AIDS Commission (GAC).

Voltic Ghana Limited presented Gh?3,000 and 60 cartons of Voltic natural mineral water.

Presenting the items, Mr. Michael Effah, Sales and Distribution Director said the package was the company’s support for the Best Reporter in Water and Sanitation reporting.

Mrs. Thyra Obuobi of the Public Relations Department of GCB said the Bank had supported the Awards for over six years, adding “the last two years we have identified and sponsored the SME Report segment of the Awards.”

She presented a cheque for GHC3, 500.00 in sponsorship for the award of Outstanding Reporter in Small and Medium Enterprise (SME).

Mrs. Obuobi said the Bank was working on its automation processes to help standardize its products and service, to reduce turnaround time to customer requests.

Mr. Donald Gwira, Head of Corporate Communications and External Affairs, Airtel, presented the company’s package of GHC3, 500 to sponsor Best Education Reporter, print category.

He said Airtel had decided to sponsor the education category of the Awards because it had made education one of its main priorities, saying “education is everybody’s business and we in Airtel have made education our business.”

Mr. Cosmos Ohene-Adjei, Sub-Projects Manager GAC, stated that the Commission was sponsoring the Best Reporter in issues relating to HIV/AIDS, with a cash amount of GHC3, 500.

He commended the media for their crucial role in supporting the several campaigns on HIV/AIDS issues that had helped sensitized the public on the pandemic.

Mr. Affail Monney, Vice President of the GJA, expressed gratitude to the organizations for their support, urging other corporate bodies to come on board to invest in the media.

“It is not enough criticizing the media, it is best to invest in its activities; quality investment in the media would help them play their roles effectively,” he added.**
