Complete the construction of our bridge - Takrowase residents

Residents of Takrowase in the West Akyem District have expressed worry over delay in the construction of a bridge over the Birim River.

They said, almost a year now that materials for the construction of the bridge were brought to site, the contractor had relaxed and the materials were gradually being stolen.

The residents made the complain when Mr. Emmanuel Victor Smith, the Eastern Regional Minister paid a working visit to the community as part of his familiarization tour to the area at the weekend.

Mr. Joseph Nii Armah, the Assemblyman for the area, said the contractor who is currently the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary candidate for the Pokoase/Amasaman Constituency, told the people that he would only continue the project when the NPP wins the December polls.

He said on July 01, this year, some four people went to the construction site shot and wounded the watchman and attempted to steal some of the building materials.

Mr. Armah said the people were arrested by members of the community and handed over to the police.

He said the watchman was later rushed to the Korle–Bu Teaching Hospital for a bullet to be removed in the leg but a doctor who treated him claimed the bullet will not harm him and he therefore returned to Takrowase with the bullet still buried in the leg.

Mr. Smith promised to arrange for the watchman to be taken to the 37 Military Hospital in Accra for the bullet to be removed.

The Asamankese District Police Commander, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Yahaya Muchiraru, confirmed the story and said the suspects had been granted bail while investigations into the case continue.**
