Drivers contribute to rehabilitate roads

About 60 drivers who ply feeder roads in the Nkoranza North District are contributing GH?5.00 each towards the maintenance of the roads.

The drivers took the decision because of the deplorable nature of the roads which have been rendered virtually unmotorable by the current heavy rains.

Mr. Kofi Opoku, one of the drivers at Bomini and the spokesperson, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Nkoranza that they had realized that, “If we rely on the government for the rehabilitation of our roads their conditions would become worst”.

He explained that their contributions would be used to hire a tipper truck to convey gravels to level the dangerous spots on the roads.

The spokesperson expressed fear that the main road from Nkoranza to Kintampo would soon be closed to traffic if the Ghana Highway Authority (GHA) did not check the erosion which was cutting through the road.

Mr. Opoku conducted the GNA round some of the dangerous spots on the road, especially near River Tankor where a greater part of the road has been eroded, making it difficult for heavy trucks from Nkoranza or Kintampo to cross.

Mr. Opoku called on the Nkoranza North District Assembly to initiate plans to rehabilitate roads in the communities to facilitate the movement of the people and their farm produce to marketing centres.**
