Work begins on Birim North's technical and vocational training school

Mr. Victor Smith, the Eastern Region Minister, has cut the sod for work to begin on an ultra-modern Technical and Vocational School at Akyem Afosu in the Birim North District.

The project estimated to cost more than one million Ghana Cedis was being funded by the District Development Fund, with support from the Ministry of Employment and Social Welfare, Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development and the Ministry of Education.

Mr. Smith said the provision of many development projects countrywide clearly shows that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Government was living up to its campaign promises.

He said considering the number of developmental projects springing up across the country since the NDC government took over in January 2009, nobody could say that the government had not performed its duty.

Mr. Smith said the people of Ghana voted the NDC government into office to solve the numerous problems confronting the state and that the government led by President John Evans Atta Mills would ensure that by time the four year mandate comes to an end there would be enough testimonies to retain the NDC in office.

He appealed to the people to rally behind the government to develop the area.

The District Chief Executive, Ms Mavis Ama Frimpong, said the project was in three phases and that phase one comprised 12- unit classroom blocks, workshop and stores.

She said phase two also involved offices and phase three comprised accommodation for staff.

Ms Frimpong said the phase one was expected to be completed in five months time.

She said the main aim of putting up the structure was to train the youth to give them employable skills.

The Regional Minister also inspected a number of completed projects within the district which included the District Magistrate Court, Police transit quarters at New Abirem, Judges Bungalows and an office complex for the National Fire Service and Immigration Service.

Mr. Smith also inaugurated a six-unit classroom block for the Faith School at Amuana Praso at the cost of GH¢145,000.

The minister earlier addressed heads of departments in the district and urged them to support the government of the day to ensure total development of the country.

He reminded them of their duties as public and civil servants who were to support government irrespective of their political affiliations so that Ghana would move forward in the right direction.

Mr. Smith cautioned that any civil or public servant who was not ready to help the government of the day to achieve its agenda of development would not be entertained.**
