Mixing Chieftaincy and Politics: A chief sits in state in NPP colours to receive Nana Addo on his tour of Kade

A chief at Kade in the eastern region showed where he truly belongs when he sat in state clad in NPP colours to receive Nana Addo, the flagbearer of the opposition New Patriotic Party(NPP) on his tour of Kade.

The Chief whose name myradiogoldlive.com cannot independently verify for now, sources say also mounted the campaign platform of Nana Addo.

Ghana’s Constitution bars chiefs from doing ‘active’ politics, but most political leaders have visited chiefs in their palaces anytime they entered their traditional areas to campaign or canvas for votes and there are speculations that after such visits, some of the chiefs or most of them, swear allegiance to the political leaders, promising them of their support and that of their subjects.

This seemingly deliberate flouting of the Constitution has been tacitly ignored by politicians from all sides of the political divide, but it has noted that “the politicians are just playing around with the institution of chieftaincy.
