Abuga Pele clarifies NYEP payment schedules

Accra, Nov. 27, GNA – Mr Abuga Pele, National Coordinator of the National Youth Employment Programme (NYEP) has called on coordinators of the Programme to pay all interns who do not have appointment letters but have introductory letters and have their names on their pay roll.

This according to him, such beneficiaries are genuine but might have either misplaced their appointment letters were not issued with one.

Coordinators are also to pay only the August arrears to beneficiaries who presented both appointment and introductory letters but did not have their names on their pay roll.

“For such people, pay for only the month of August and record arrears if applicable for payment into beneficiaries’ accounts”.

Mr Pele, who was briefing the press on the payment module for beneficiaries, urged coordinators not to make any payment to beneficiaries who had appointment letters with their names also on pay rolls but had no introductory letter.

“This means that, even though, the beneficiary has appointment letter, he or she might not be working”, he explained.

He appealed to beneficiaries who exit the programme to officially write to the coordinators for their names to be deleted from the payroll of the Programme.

Mr Pele called on coordinators to be transparent in their work adding, two coordinators had been fired for abuse of office.

He noted that payment for three months (August, September and October) allowance arrears had began throughout the country and pledged government’s commitment towards paying beneficiaries all their arrears before end of 2011.

He said the recruitment into the Programme had been put on hold in an effort to exit those put on the Programme two years ago
