Nkoranza District NADMO office registers 280 returnees from Libya

Busunya (B/A) June 16, GNA - The Nkoranza North District Office of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) has registered 280 returnees from Libya following the crisis in that country.

Mr Kwadwo Agyei-Dwumor, District Chief Executive (DCE), made this known at a meeting with the returnees and encouraged them to engage in viable vocations.

He urged them not to feel dejected but rather work hard to help develop their communities and Ghana as a whole.

The DCE said Government had launched a youth development programme dubbed; Local enterprise Skills Development, which aimed at encouraging unemployed youth to learn trades and vocations to gain employable skills.

Some of the modules arranged under the project are mobile and lap-top computer repairs, agro-processing, fisheries, livestock breeding, local food and catering, local construction, beauty salon and dressmaking.

Mr Agyei-Dwumor said life was not about the acquisition of wealth but rather how a person could manage and plan to help his or her community to progress.

Mr Kwame Baffoe, one of the returnees, who hails from Bomiri, commended the government for evacuating them from Libya.

Meanwhile Mr Daniel Kweku Sam, Field Manager of International Organisation for Migration (IOM) has urged the youth to endeavour to acquire the relevant travelling documents before embarking on foreign trips in order not to encounter problems.

He said it risky for one to involve in illegal migration.

The Field Manager explained that the IOM was set up to offer the necessary assistance to migrants and encouraged the youth to travel safely abroad.

He expressed regret about how some migrants died as a result of irregular migration.

Mr Sam cautioned them against dealing with so-called 91connection men' in acquiring travelling documents, saying such persons are cheats and only exploit others for their selfish gains.

The Reverend Frank Peprah Twumasi, Chief Executive Officer of Scholars in Transit, an Nkoranza-based NGO, advised the returnees to engage in income-generating ventures to enhance their lifestyles.
