Parkinson's disease is a brain disorder that causes shaking, stiffness, and trouble with walking and balance. It happens when the brain loses cells that make a chemical called dopamine, which normally helps control smooth body movements.
While it can not be cured, treatments like daily medications and physical therapy can help manage symptoms and make moving around much easier.
In Ghana, an estimated 16,350 people are living with Parkinson's disease.
The Cocoa Marketing Company (Ghana) Limited (CMC) has therefore reaffirmed its commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) through its support for the Anidaso Parkinson Foundation, an organisation dedicated to improving the lives of people living with Parkinson’s disease in Ghana.
The Managing Director of CMC, Wisdom Kofi Dogbey, led a delegation from the company to the Foundation’s fundraising gala dinner held on Saturday, October 31, 2026, at the Alisa Hotel in Accra.
The gesture forms part of CMC’s broader commitment to making a meaningful contribution to society beyond its core business of marketing, warehousing, and shipping Ghana’s cocoa to local and international markets.
Through this initiative, the Cocoa Marketing Company is lending its financial and moral support to efforts aimed at improving access to essential medication, promoting public awareness and strengthening care for individuals and families affected by Parkinson’s disease.
On the sidelines, the MD emphasised compassion, family support and collective responsibility in improving patients’ quality of life.

He noted that while medical treatment remains essential, the emotional and social support patients receive from their families, friends, colleagues and communities plays an equally important role in helping them navigate the challenges associated with the disease, stressing the need to create supportive environments that preserve their dignity and wellbeing.
The Founder of the Anidaso Parkinson Foundation, Dr Vida Obese, a neurologist, explained that the name Anidaso, an Akan word meaning hope, reflects the Foundation’s mission to restore hope and improve the lives of individuals affected by Parkinson’s disease and their families.
CMC’s participation in the initiative consequently reinforces the importance of corporate institutions contributing to public health awareness, supporting vulnerable groups and promoting a more inclusive and compassionate society.
The company's support for the Anidaso Parkinson Foundation demonstrates its recognition that responsible corporate citizenship extends beyond commercial performance to include meaningful interventions that positively impact lives.
By supporting initiatives that promote access to healthcare, patient dignity and caregiver wellbeing, CMC continues to demonstrate its commitment to social responsibility and the broader wellbeing of Ghanaian communities.
