Several traditional communities between Nsawam and Suhum in the Eastern Region have formed a united front to resist what they describe as the forceful acquisition of their ancestral lands by real estate developer Koans Building Solutions.
The chiefs accuse the company of allegedly using land guards and state security personnel to intimidate residents while pursuing attempts to take over vast stretches of land, including entire communities.
The traditional leaders claim Koans Building Solutions has, over the years, acquired and registered large tracts of land in its name without the knowledge or consent of the affected chiefs and the Okyenhene, the paramount chief of the Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Area.
Describing the alleged activities as a threat to their traditional authority, livelihoods and ancestral heritage, the chiefs say they will no longer confront the situation individually.
Their newly established alliance is intended to strengthen their collective resistance, challenge what they consider unlawful land acquisitions and bring an end to the alleged intimidation of residents.
The chiefs made their position known during a media engagement at the Ofori Panin Fie in Kyebi on Thursday, October 29, 2026, where they outlined their grievances and announced their resolve to protect the lands under their traditional jurisdiction.
They maintain that the dispute goes beyond ownership claims, insisting that the alleged acquisition of entire communities without the consent of their traditional authorities raises serious concerns about land ownership, customary rights and the security of residents.
The alliance is expected to serve as a common platform through which the affected communities can pursue their concerns and resist any further attempts to take control of their ancestral lands.
