The University of Ghana Alumni Association (UGAA), in partnership with the University of Ghana, has officially commissioned the Alex A. Dadey Centre at the university’s Legon campus in honour of Dr Alexander Apau Dadey Snr, an eminent Ghanaian scholar and educational administrator whose life was dedicated to education, public service, mentorship and policy advocacy.

The commissioning ceremony took place on October 23, 2026.

According to the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ghana, Professor Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, Dr Dadey Snr was a former student of the university and served on its Council from 1978 to 1985, making him one of its longest-serving members. During his time as a student, he benefited from the mentorship of distinguished academic Professor Alexander Kwapong.

Professor Amfo highlighted some of Dr Dadey Snr’s key contributions during his tenure on the University Council.

Dr Dadey Snr also served as National Chairman of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) for five years and as President of the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS) for six years.

He was an accomplished educational administrator who served as headmaster of Achimota Senior High School and Okuapeman Senior High School.

The commissioning ceremony was led by Professor Amfo, alongside members of the university’s management, UGAA leadership, Mr Alex Apau Dadey, son of Dr Dadey Snr, and other distinguished personalities from corporate Ghana and academia.
KGL Group founder pays tribute to father

Paying tribute to his father’s legacy and influence, Mr Alex Apau Dadey, Founder and Executive Chairman of the KGL Group of Companies, described Dr Dadey Snr as a man of extraordinary discipline, integrity, credibility, humility, intellectual curiosity and commitment to public service.

He said his father believed education was not merely a pathway to personal success but also an instrument for transforming individuals and society and promoting national development in Ghana and across Africa.

Mr Dadey Jnr said growing up under his father’s guidance taught him that the true measure of success lies not simply in the wealth accumulated but also in the lives positively changed, the people transformed and the institutions strengthened for the benefit of the country.

He added that his father taught his children and mentees that a good name was worth more than material possessions and that the greatest legacy was what remained long after a person had departed this world.

Touching on the Dadey family’s philosophy of wealth creation and distribution, the KGL Group founder said: “As a family, we believe in a moral responsibility to give back to society and the institutions that nurtured us, shaped our character, and provided the foundations for our success.”

He explained that the establishment of the KGL Foundation was rooted in this conviction and in the principles and family tradition established by Dr Dadey Snr.

At the heart of this philosophy, he said, was a principle that should increasingly define successful African entrepreneurs and business leaders: “Wealth creation and wealth distribution are two sides of the same coin.”

According to Mr Dadey, the family believes that “we cannot celebrate the accumulation of private wealth without recognising the need to reinvest in the communities and institutions that make our success possible.”

He further emphasised the family’s conviction that “a truly successful business must create wealth for its shareholders, opportunities for its employees, and lasting prosperity for the communities in which it operates.”

Through the KGL Foundation, the family seeks to institutionalise its commitment to giving back to society and transforming the rewards of enterprise into lasting socioeconomic impact.
KGL Foundation’s legacy projects

Between October and November 2026, the KGL Foundation is scheduled to commission several legacy projects in line with the Dadey family’s commitment to education and national development.

The projects include an ultra-modern, fully equipped technology centre with a capacity of 250 at Aburi Girls’ Senior High School and a multimillion-dollar, state-of-the-art sports complex for Mfantsipim Senior High School in Cape Coast.

The KGL Foundation, in partnership with the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, is also constructing a multimillion-dollar, ultra-modern diagnostic centre at the Greater Accra Regional Hospital, popularly known as Ridge Hospital.

In partnership with the Eve Medical Foundation, the KGL Foundation has established the multimillion-dollar KGL Eve Medical Centre at the KNUST Medical Village in Kumasi. The centre specialises in women’s wellness, mental health and general medical services.

Beyond major social infrastructure projects, the KGL Foundation has supported Ghana’s national football teams, juvenile football and the Ghana Football Association (GFA). It has also provided scholarships to thousands of students through its various initiatives.
