The Okomfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) has organised free health screening for hundreds of people at the Bantama Market in the Kumasi Metropolis of the Ashanti Region.
The screening, according to authorities at KATH, formed part of activities to mark their 70th anniversary celebration.
Held on Thursday, October 22, 2026, beneficiaries were screened for Hepatitis B, Breast Cancer, eye problems, blood pressure, oral examination, among others.
Speaking to OTEC News at the sidelines of the event, Resident Doctor at the Family Medicine Directorate at KATH, Dr Emmanuel Teye, said they organised the screening as a way of giving back to society.
"As one of the biggest referral facilities in the country, it is expedient to engage in corporate social responsibility and give back to the communities we work in," he said.
He noted that individuals screened were advised accordingly based on the results of the screening.
He pledged the facility's commitment to ensuring patients who seek medical care will be given high-standard treatment.
He, however, urged the public to adopt preventive measures to avoid sickness, adding that screening and checking health status are important to know the body's condition.
Beneficiaries Express Gratitude
Some beneficiaries who spoke to OTEC News expressed their appreciation to KATH for the gesture.
According to them, the free screening has saved them money and given them the opportunity to know their health status.
"We thank KATH for bringing healthcare to our doorstep. Many of us cannot afford to go to the hospital for check-ups, so this screening is a blessing to us," one beneficiary said.
Another beneficiary said, "I have been screened for breast cancer and blood pressure for free. I am very grateful to KATH for this initiative. They should continue to do this for market women like us."
