A roundtable has brought together financial institutions and development partners to explore how financing can support regular labour migration for Ghanaian Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) graduates.

The Migration Finance Roundtable was convened by the Ghana Association of Banks and the Promoting Sustainable Migration, Decent Work and Professional Qualifications (MiWorQ) Programme, funded by the German Government.

Participants explored how financing could support graduates at different stages of the migration process, from training and certification to meeting the upfront costs of migrating for work.

However, financial literacy and partnerships with financial institutions go beyond helping migrants meet the initial costs of migration. They also aim to build lasting financial relationships through savings, payments, investments, remittances and other financial services.

The next step is to translate these discussions into practical and sustainable financing models that benefit migrants, banks and other stakeholders involved in labour migration.

MiWorQ is an initiative of Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH in partnership with Ghana’s Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations.
