The Ghana Armed Forces’ (GAF) initiative to redevelop Burma Camp and El-Wak into modern residential communities has received a GH¢100,000 financial boost from Omanbapa Deftech Limited, as efforts intensify to address accommodation challenges facing military personnel and their families.
The contribution forms part of growing support for the redevelopment initiative being spearheaded by the Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS), Lieutenant General William Agyapong, to replace ageing military infrastructure and improve living conditions within the country's major military installations.
The donation was presented by the Chief Executive Officer of Omanbapa Deftech Limited, Bernard Oduro Takyi, during a ceremony at the General Headquarters of the Ghana Armed Forces at Burma Camp in Accra on Tuesday, October 13, 2026.
The Chief of Staff at General Headquarters, Air Vice Marshal (AVM) Joshua Mensah Larkai, received the contribution on behalf of the CDS.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony, AVM Mensah Larkai underscored the importance of the project in addressing longstanding infrastructure needs within the military.
He explained that the redevelopment of Burma Camp and El-Wak was among the infrastructure interventions being undertaken under the leadership of the CDS to improve accommodation and general living conditions for personnel.
According to him, the project is also intended to promote a more structured and sustainable residential environment within military communities.
He stressed that the successful implementation of the initiative would require sustained collaboration and financial support from corporate institutions and other development partners.
AVM Mensah Larkai expressed appreciation to Omanbapa Deftech Limited for its GH¢100,000 contribution, describing support from private organisations as important to the successful execution of the redevelopment programme.
He noted that improving military accommodation and infrastructure required collective efforts, particularly given the scale of the redevelopment being undertaken.
Presenting the donation, Oduro Takyi described the redevelopment initiative as a significant undertaking that deserved support from individuals and corporate institutions.
He emphasised the need for collaboration between the private sector and public institutions to help address infrastructure challenges and improve the welfare of personnel serving the country.
Oduro Takyi commended the CDS for pursuing the redevelopment through a self-help initiative and expressed the company's willingness to contribute towards its implementation.
The Burma Camp and El-Wak redevelopment initiative forms part of a broader infrastructure development programme aimed at addressing accommodation challenges within the Ghana Armed Forces.
The project seeks to transform existing military residential facilities into modern, organised and sustainable communities that provide improved housing and supporting infrastructure for service personnel and their families.
Beyond improving residential facilities, the redevelopment is expected to enhance the welfare of military personnel and contribute to the operational effectiveness of the Armed Forces by creating a more conducive living environment.
